The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in the year 2001, with the introduction of the Undergraduate (UG) programme. Later, the Postgraduate (PG) programme in Communication Systems was introduced in 2006. Initially, the sanctioned intake for the UG programme was 60 students, which was subsequently increased to 120 and later to 180 students during the academic year 2012–2013. The PG programme has a sanctioned intake of 18 students.
The department received NBA accreditation in 2018 and was reaccredited in 2021. It has also applied for NBA Tier-1 accreditation. The department received AICTE funding of ₹12,50,000 during the academic year 2009–2010 and ₹5,00,000 during 2011–2012 under the MODROBS scheme for the modernization of laboratories.
In addition, the department received financial support from AICTE Seminar Grant and TNSCST, amounting to ₹40,000 and ₹15,000, respectively, during the academic years 2009–2010 and 2018–2019 for organizing conferences. The department has also organized sponsored Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) supported by MeitY, Centre for Academic Courses – Anna University, and NIT Warangal during the years 2025, 2020, and 2021 respectively.
The department hosts active professional bodies such as the IETE Student Forum (ISF), Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), and ISTE. It has also established Centres of Excellence in IoT, Semiconductor Technologies, and Materials.
The department is supported by highly qualified, dedicated, and research-oriented faculty members, along with trained technical and non-teaching staff. It is equipped with spacious and well-established laboratories that provide students with an industry-oriented learning environment for practical training.
